Reading Your Tire Sizing Code Is A Very Useful Skill To Have

Understanding the tire sizing code that shows on your tire sidewalls is nothing to fret over. Once you get the code broken down and figured out then you will be able to read it on any tire. This skill comes in quite handy when it comes time to buy a replacement set of tires for your car, truck, or SUV.

As an example, if you have a tire sizing code that shows 215/55R17 then that translates to:
  • 215 - Tire width. This tire would be 215 millimeters wide.
  • 55 - Aspect ratio. The height of this tire would be 55% of its total width.
  • R - Radial construction.
  • 17 - Wheel diameter. This tire would fit on a 17" wheel.
As you can see above, the code is actually very easy to break down and read once you know how to do it. If you need any more help with tire sizing then ask one of the experts here at our service center at Fletcher Hyundai in Joplin.
